Peru has the highest Covid death rate in the world with more than 6,000 per million deaths from the deadly virus, according to new data.
About 199,632 died during the pandemic in the country of 32.97 million people, nearly double the proportion of the next worst affected country (3,256 deaths per million).
The pandemic has had a wildly erratic effect on several countries around the world, with China – where the virus originated – only recording 30 deaths per million people.
