A suspect opened fire inside Milpitas’ Great Mall Saturday night, shooting a man and sending crowds of frantic shoppers to run for cover, police said.
Authorities intervened at the scene at 5:16 pm following reports of a shooting outside the Old Navy, said Lt. Tyler Jamison of the Milpitas Police Department. Jamison declined to comment on the victim’s condition or the suspect’s whereabouts.
“Right now, we’re not releasing any more information,” he said. “We are putting everyone under cover until the agents finish their investigation and research.”
Just before 9pm, the Milpitas police said they had safely evicted the mall.
“ALL CLEAR, the teams have concluded their searches inside the mall,” the police tweeted. “Everyone who was on the scene was escorted out safely. There were no additional casualties associated with this shooting.
“There were two unrelated medical emergencies during the evacuations, which required medical transport to a local hospital. Detectives and field test technicians remain at the scene and are actively investigating this incident. There are currently no ongoing threats to the community at this time ”.
