Mourinho has been a longtime admirer of Xhaka, embracing the midfielder following the Spurs victory in the North London derby over their rivals this season, and praised him in 2019.

Xhaka admitted that he is unaware of these comments from Mourinho, but said he likes to hear such praise from such a respected figure in the game.
The midfielder added: ‘To tell the truth, I didn’t hear what Mourinho said about me. But this makes you proud.
‘Everyone knows Mourinho, they know what he has achieved. Mourinho knows how to win titles. Now you can see what work I’ve done in the last few years. ‘
