Queensland’s Lowest Unemployment Rate – Blow the Truth

The Palaszczuk government’s COVID-19 economic recovery plan is working, with the latest ABS workforce data showing Queensland unemployment at its lowest level since April 2009.

Treasurer and Investment Minister Cameron Dick said 16,700 jobs were added in June, the highest increase in the nation and more than half of all jobs created in Australia.

“Today’s workforce employment data highlights once again that Queensland is the place to work, do business and invest,” said Dick.

“Our unemployment rate is now at 5.1 percent, down 0.3 percentage points from last month and at a level not seen in more than 12 years.

“Since the Palaszczuk Labor government was first elected in 2015, we have created 354,100 jobs for Queensland.

“Last month, more than 500 new jobs were added every day and, with our COVID-19 economic recovery plan in full swing, we will look to further exploit these numbers in the months and years to come.”

Queensland was the first Australian state to make up for all the jobs lost during the pandemic.

Dick said Queensland’s laser focus on economic recovery has led to a strong and rapid rebound in employment.

“We now have 101,600 jobs above our March 2020 pre-COVID level, nearly four times that of New South Wales,” he said.

“Incredibly, since the depth of the pandemic in May last year, we have continued to create 300,000 jobs, about 30% of all jobs nationwide.

“To put that number in perspective, Cairns’s population is around 150,000.

“But there is no time to rest on these results, we will continue to invest in our economic recovery, jobs and a brighter future for all Queenslanders.”

Employment and Small Business Minister Di Farmer said it is clear that the Palaszczuk government’s plan for COVID economic recovery is paying off for Queensland.

“Our state has been through very difficult times due to the global pandemic. As of July 2020, we had an unemployment rate of 8.7%, so seeing that it has now dropped to 5.1% shows that our significant investment to help Queenslanders get back to work is paying off, “the said. Farmer.

“In human terms, there are 16,700 more people in Queensland at work now than in May. This is life-changing news for 16,700 Queensland families.

“Over the past week I have announced two new regional labor committees, one in Bundaberg and one on the Gold Coast, which will join the six existing committees.

“It’s localized investments and solutions like this that will keep our economy growing and keep people finding jobs.”

Queensland’s COVID-19 economic recovery budget was delivered last month.
