The government of Zimbabwe has rejected rumors of an impending Covid-19 blockade in the country.
Permanent Secretary of Information, Advertising and Broadcasting Services Nick Mangwana said: “We have been informed of the circulation of messages stating that there is a block (sp) that prevents. There are no such plans. “
The rumors came from the belief that blockades in Zimbabwe often coincide with those in South Africa. South Africa recently tightened its blockade rules following an increase in cases and deaths.
In truth, the regulations in SA match those in Zimbabwe at the time and there hasn’t been a significant increase in cases north of Limpopo. Where there have been cases, they have often been isolated.
As of June 4, 2021, Zimbabwe had 39,144 confirmed cases, including 36,690 recovered and 1,605 deaths. To date, a total of 685,564 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
However, it would be surprising if there was a new block.
