MILPITAS (CBS SF / AP) – The Milpitas Police Department investigated a shooting that took place Saturday night in a shopping mall and people temporarily sheltered on the spot.
At 8:30 pm, the department said officers were escorting shop employees and shoppers outside the Great Mall. The go-ahead was given around 9:30 pm. Police say two people went to the hospital for unrelated medical emergencies during the evacuations.

The shooting was first reported at 5:32 PM
Angelo Palma said he and a friend were on their way from a church meeting when they decided to stop by the mall. He said they were in a shop when they saw people running.
“Everyone starts running,” said Palma. “A shooting! Everyone just started running. People ran forward, people ran backward. People were falling. It was hectic. “
There are currently no threats to the public, police said.
Police said there were no other victims related to the shooting.
Crime scene investigators and investigators remained at the scene Saturday night to actively investigate the incident.
Police have not released any information on a potential suspect in the shooting.
