MANCHESTER UNITED SELLS MARTIAL FOR £ 54 MILLION AT NEWCASTLE

Manchester United center forward Anthony Martial has had a tough couple of seasons at Manchester United.

In the year 2015 he was signed by AS Monaco, Anthony Martial, now 25, failed to live up to the hype surrounding him when he was first brought to Old Trafford.

Center forward Anthony Martial began his United career largely used as a left winger. Furthermore, more recent years have seen him deployed as a center forward.

Also, unfortunately for Martial, it has become quite clear that the Frenchman is not cut out to be the main number nine (9) in a top club.

In the 2020/21 year, for example, Martial was used as Man United’s main striker for a good portion of the campaign as Edinson Cavani had injury problems.

However, even though he participated in 22 of the Red Devils’ 38 league games before getting injured; he only scored four goals.

And Martial’s return to scoring hasn’t been great so far this season.

The Frenchman has made seven appearances in all competitions for Manchester United, scoring just one goal and providing no assists.

ANTHONY MARTIAL IS NOW A HIGHEST NEWCASTLE PRIORITY

As a result, it wasn’t too surprising to see Euro Sport last month that Old Trafford officials gave the green light to Martial reps to look for a new club.

Now, as previously mentioned, it appears that a potential suitor for Martial has emerged.

It is reported that Newcastle United’s recruiting team has already made contact on the possibility of signing Martial in January.

It is added that Newcastle have made formal contact with Manchester United and the player’s representative.

They also claim that the Red Devils are willing to allow Martial to leave and will ask for as close as possible to the £ 54 million they originally paid for him, as much as possible.

But given his drop in form and potential, Manchester United seems unlikely to come close to that sum.
