Mallika Sherawat became Bollywood’s sexual siren after dazzling everyone with her daring role in the 2004 film Murder alongside Emraan Hashmi. She may have been away from show business for a while, but she has always kept in touch with her fans through social media. Many may not know that Mallika faced her family’s objections when she decided to pursue an acting career. She recently revealed that, in her rebellion against the patriarchy, she reneged on her father’s name and adopted her mother’s name Sherawat and moved to Mumbai to follow her dreams.
Mallika said her family was upset by her decision to become an actress. Her father strongly opposed it and said he would disown her as it would ruin the family name. Mallika was irritated by her father’s harsh words and decided to abandon her surname as an act of rebellion.
“It was my rebellion against patriarchy because my father said: ‘Ye filmo mein jayegi, parivaar ka naam kharab karegi, main tereko disown karta hoon (He will enter the film industry, ruin the family name, I will disown you).’ Maine kaha, ‘Main tumhara naam hi denies karti hoon. Tum kya mujhe denies karoge. Yes, you are my father, I respect you, I love you, main apni maa ka naam use karungi (but I will use my mother’s name). ‘ So I used Sherawat, that’s my mother’s name, ”Mallika told Bollywood Bubble.
On the work front, Mallika will play the role of Zohra Mehra, a leading and influential television producer on the web show Nakaab. He said it refers to the perseverance of his character. He also talked about his point of view on this character compared to the TV Tsarina Ekta Kapoor.
Asked about the same thing, Mallika told IANS: “I have immense respect for Ekta and all that she has achieved in what has always been a male-dominated industry. And while many might like to make a comparison, the my character Zohra is actually made of a strong fabric, and I can totally identify with her. I started from scratch and worked hard to get to where I am today. “
She added: “All I can say is that it takes a lot of perseverance to go it alone. As a single woman, it has been tough, there are obstacles that you may think that you will never be able to overcome but in the end you can make it. Congratulations to all the women out there, trying to carve out their own path. “
Nakaab revolves around policeman Aditi Amre (Esha Gupta) who is assigned to a high-profile death case of prime-time television actress Vibha Dutta (Ankita Chakraborty) who was very close to Zohra Mehra (Mallika Sherawat). Aditi’s monotonous life turns upside down as he begins to unravel intricate details about the case. As Aditi embarks on this journey with her elder, Pawan Bisht (Gautam Rode), she discovers a part of her personality that she didn’t know existed within her.
Directed by Soumik Sen will be released on September 15th on MX Player.
