Zimbabwe manager Zdravko Logarusic blamed the suitability for the match or the lack of it for the weak 0-0 performance against a young South Africa.
The result means that the Croatian has a record of one victory in 13 games at the wheel.
And he blames the aspect that his players weren’t able to conjure a goal because many of his players weren’t regular holders in their teams or were in pre-season.
“At the end of the match it could be seen that we had a problem with match eligibility because only four of our players play regularly at their clubs,” he said after that result.
“We have (Onismor) Bhasera, Marshall (Munetsi), Khama (Billiat) and (Knowledge) Musona, who play regularly in their clubs, the rest of our players don’t play regularly.”
Logarusic has therefore identified characters of the caliber of Divine Lunga and Alec Mudimu as lacking in suitability for the match. Fair enough. But according to all those two were among the best performers in a defensive bulwark.
Billiat, despite all his physical form, was as terrible as he has ever been in a Warriors jersey. He often seemed isolated and uncertain, which means that any creativity he’s used to may have no admirers.
But the fact is, in no time have we seen such a disjointed attack, poor passes and nonexistent chances. Sunday Chidzambwa, with his long ball kick, also had a recognizable style of football that he was trying to implement.
With Logarusic, it seemed that an appointment was made and prayed for a miracle. After all, he said, the game needed a “moment of brilliance”.
Look, we get it. There are schools of thought that believe that a bench warmer from another league is better than a local player who might be fit. And Logarusic will feel different and perhaps think that if the local league had been active, certain spaces could be assisted by fit players.
But it’s the fact that Zimbabwe has already had situations where Musona would play for the Warriors even though he didn’t have playing time at Anderlecht. Even in those days he was scoring because the intention was to win and score points.
That Logarusic made us believe that no coach would get anything from that team yesterday is foolish. If the draw was due to eight or so chances not hitting the net like the old Warriors, it would be better. But this is not the case here.
A tie shouldn’t be acceptable. It is not acceptable and the record has gone beyond despair for WTF.
Maybe there is some plan that the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) is not telling us. Perhaps the ambitions of the fans are higher than those of the administration and therefore the acceptance of mediocrity.
In the absence of that, the way they would accept it as an excuse for THAT performance is beyond reason.
