However it is the little things and the nice people I met, whose friends I now call, that made being a Local Member so special. Nothing is closer to my heart than the big hug and smile I received Rosie Schenker when I delivered a kidney unit to Cooma Hospital, so he no longer had to make long trips to Canberra.
To the people of Monaro, thank you for this honor.
In my time as Deputy Prime Minister I have experienced firsthand, along with communities in NSW, the effects of prolonged drought, the worst forest fires in living memory, severe storms and floods, and a 1 in 100 year global pandemic, and it was a privilege to work with our communities to resist and recover from these challenges.
I hope those communities can see my genuine and tireless effort to be there for them, especially as the Minister responsible for Disaster Recovery, a role I will never forget. I shared hugs, shed tears and brought hope to many.
My number one goal has always been to make regional NSW the best place to live, work, play and raise a family and to achieve this I proudly handed over the $ 4.2 billion Snowy Hydro Legacy Fund, the $ 2 Billion Regional Growth Fund and Transformational Districts Special Activation. These are record investments, which bring a sense of pride to our cities.
To ensure that regional communities are always at the center of government decision making, the NSW Department of Regional was born, as well as the NSW Government Regionalization Strategy which heralded a new era for NSW’s public service in the bush.
The Declaration on the Future of Coal and the Declaration on the Future of Gas gave regional communities the certainty of land use and job security, which NSW has craved for a generation, striking a balance between agriculture, environment and industry. of resources.
We thought 2020 was challenging, and then 2021 continued to bring those challenges, but in all these times, the resilience shown by the people of NSW has been truly inspiring.
