Lakhimpur: farmers must observe “Shaheed Kisan Diwas”, SKM calls for intensification of protest

New Delhi: Farmers protesting the three controversial agricultural laws will observe the “Shaheed Kisan Diwas” on Tuesday to pay tribute to the four farmers who lost their lives in the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri on 3 October.

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of more than 40 agricultural unions, issued a statement calling on farmers’ organizations and progressive groups across the country to mark the occasion by organizing prayer and tribute meetings across the country. country, followed by candlelit vigils in the evening.

This comes after Samyukt Kisan Morcha had “warned” the Center and the Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday that the deadline for the dismissal and arrest of Interior Minister Ajay Mishra expires on Monday, failing which the body will begin gradual protests against Lakhimpur Kheri violence.

“SKM warns the government of India and the government of Uttar Pradesh that time is running out on the October 11 deadline set by it. The arrest and dismissal of Ajay Mishra are expected, as well as the arrest of all those guilty of the massacre of the farmers of Lakhimpur Kheri, ”he wrote in a statement.

Farmers’ unions also called for a “rail roko” protest across the country from 10am to 4pm on October 18 and a “maha panchayat” in Lucknow on October 26.
