Kanye West’s new album, Donda, debuted at # 1 on the Billboard 200, the tenth time it will have an album at the top of the list.
With this feat, Kanye now equals Eminem’s record (10) in the most important week for any album released this year as she has even surpassed Olivia Rodrigo’s “Sour”
Billboard reported that Kanye’s Donda album debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart after moving 309,000 units of equivalent albums in the first week, of which 37,000 of the total came from pure album sales.
The album marks the largest total of first-week sales of the year, with Olivia Rodrigo’s album Sour selling 295,000 equivalent units when it was first released three months ago.
Kanye became one of only seven artists in chart history to release 10 chart-topping albums (along with the Beatles, JAY-Z, Bruce Springsteen, Barbra Streisand, Eminem and Elvis Presley). Donda also gave him the biggest streaming week for an album in 2021, surpassing J. Cole’s The Off-Season.
The success of the album comes after the sold out of Donda’s live listening sessions and the sold out of GAP-Adidas merchandising.
Kanye, one of the most influential figures in pop culture for at least 15 years, has features of JAY-Z, Travis Scott, Lil Baby, The Weeknd, Don Toliver on the album.
