Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi on Sunday became the first foreign leader to visit and meet with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi since the hard line took office in August.
The visit is the latest step in Iraq’s efforts to mediate between Tehran and its enemies in the Arabian Gulf, including Saudi Arabia, in hopes of preventing its neighbors from settling scores on its territory.
