CBC News: The National in Canada shows that Canada’s hotel quarantine requirement ended in August, but we only now have an idea of how it was enforced. CBC News has learned that fines were imposed unevenly, depending on which passengers from the city landed on.
A “quarantine” is actually a restriction on the movement of people, animals and goods that is intended to prevent the spread of diseases or parasites. It is often used in connection with diseases and illnesses, preventing the movement of those who may have been exposed to a communicable disease but do not have a confirmed medical diagnosis.
“Medical isolation” is different. This is for those who confirmed to be infected with a communicable disease are isolated from the healthy population.
Quarantine considerations are often an important aspect of border control.
Ethical and practical considerations must certainly be taken into consideration when quarantining people. The practice varies from country to country.
