The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has sued Jessica Roselyn Edoleyi, Charles Endurance and Ayase Destiny before Judge SM Shuaibu of the Benin Federal High Court, Edo state.
The trio was arrested for offenses bordering on obtaining false claims, fraudulent intent and impersonation.
Edoleyi allegedly obtained N2,550,000 from Airiohuodion Efosa under the pretext of obtaining a Canadian visa for him.
Endurance and Destiny allegedly impersonated the identities of Roland Scout, Sina Joorachi and George Lawrence to defraud foreign nationals.
The EFCC stated that Edoleyi committed an offense contrary to section 1 (1) (a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offes Act, 2006 and punishable under the same section.
Ayase asserted to an American doctor and sent her photo to unsuspecting women overseas through the Internet to get dubious money
The offense was contrary to article 22 (2) (b) (ii) of the Cybercrime (prohibition, prevention, etc.) Act 2015 and punishable under article 22 (2) (b) (in) of the same law.
Endurance was reported for the same crime. All the defendants pleaded “not guilty” to the charges.
The prosecuting attorney, KU Udus and KY Bello, begged the court for the date of the trial and the order to send the defendants back to prison pending trial.
In his ruling, Judge Shuaibu updated the matter to October 18, 2021 for the bail application hearing.
The trio will remain in a Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) facility.
