Colombian authorities have seized more than $ 80 million worth of cocaine trafficked by sea.
A joint operation led by the Colombian army and air force arrested five people in a raid on a boat over the weekend near the Andres Islands in the Caribbean. The speedboat was reportedly carrying 2.4 tons of cocaine to Central America.
“This operation allowed us to prevent 80 million dollars from reaching the coffers of the Gulf Clan, a group of drug traffickers who use these resources to take action against civilians,” Colombian Defense Minister Diego Molano announced.
The drug seizure is the largest so far by the Colombian military in 2021. Molano continued noting that the public force “continued relentlessly, strengthening the capacity for manual eradication” of illicit drug trafficking.
