Good Morning America on Youtube shows Dr. Jen Ashton explains why the country is allowing people to mix and match vaccine brands.
Dr. Joss Reimer (Chief Medical Officer of the Manitoba Vaccine Implementation Task Force) says the new vaccine recommendations from the Canadian National Immunization Advisory Committee on mixing mRNA vaccines will be a form of trial and error.
It can be seen as a kind of experiment. On Tuesday, NACI changed its guidelines to allow Canadians to mix and match AstraZeneca with Moderna or Pfizer’s mRNA vaccine. There was no current data on the interchangeability of mRNA vaccines.
NACI still recommends sticking to the same mRNA vaccine regimen for both doses, but that can be mixed if there are problems with availability.
