Judge Obiora Egwatu of the Abuja Federal High Court stopped the impeachment move against the deputy governor of the state of Zamfara, Alhaji Mahadi Aliyu Mohammed Gusau.
The judge barred members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly from taking further steps in the impeachment process against the deputy governor for his refusal to leave the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, at the All Progressive Congress, APC, along with Governor Bello Matawalle.
Judge Egwatu issued the order on Monday in his ruling in an ex-parte application filed by the PDP.
After hearing the arguments brought forward by a senior Nigerian lawyer, Chief James Onoja Ogwu, the judge found that the applicant’s apprehension of the impeachment move was serious and justified to prevent the defendants from carrying out the alleged action.
The judge also prevented the chief judge of the state of Zamfara from setting up a panel for investigations into Gusau pending the determination of a motion of warning presented by the PDP.
Other defendants in the matter are the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the APC, the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Speaker of the Zamfara House of Assembly and Governor Bello Matawalle.
