The huge ship that got stuck in the Suez Canal last week was released, officials said earlier Monday. Long live the stranded ship.
Never given, a container ship larger than the Empire State Building, disrupted a crucial trade route after being wedged sideways in the canal last Tuesday, delaying reaching their cargo destinations by billions of dollars.
On Monday, the channel’s service provider announced that the ship had been refloated and was on its way.
Rescue teams on the tugboats had spent six days working to free the ship and were ultimately successful thanks, in part, to the full moon that brought high tide.
According to Reuters, a Dutch company that assisted in efforts to free the boat had previously compared the ship to a “beached whale” and said it “could take weeks” to build.
Despite being a global commercial disaster, the Never given Getting stuck has fascinated the world and has become the subject of a lot of jokes and memes.
As it floated free on Monday, trade officials, rescue teams and politicians celebrated.
But many, many other people made a different request:
