Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Alek Manoah received a five-game ban and an undisclosed fine for intentionally pitching Maikel Franco in the lower fourth inning of Saturday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards’ Oriole Park. Michael Hill, Major League Baseball’s Senior Vice President of Field Operations, made the announcement.
Additionally, Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo received a match suspension for Manoah’s actions. Montoyo will serve his ban tonight when the Blue Jays play in Miami.
Manoah’s suspension was scheduled to begin that evening. However, Manoah decided to appeal. Therefore, the discipline will be suspended until the process is completed.
